important update Regarding COVID-19
Due to the recent order from Governor Murphy, we will be cancelling “Parking Lot Church” at 10:15am on Sunday, March 22nd. The service will be live streamed on the church’s Facebook page.
While we will continue to gather digitally, at an emergency meeting of the Session on Friday, March 13th, it was decided to close the church building to all activities, including the Thrift Shop, committee meetings, outside organization rentals, and Sunday morning worship in the sanctuary, to lessen the possibility of spreading the COVID-19 virus. After two weeks, the situation will be reassessed based on NJ regulations and updates regarding the virus.
A message from Pastor Lynn:
Last week we gathered in the parking lot of First Presbyterian Church in Verona to worship at a safe distance while Liz streamed the service on line. And, we did worship together!
We were able to do that because the standards for social distancing was, to limit gatherings to small groups and maintain a 6 foot distance within those small groups. The exception being members of one’s own family or household.
Yesterday Governor Murphy issued executive order 107 which changed the standards. The language in that order that convinced me to change this service to a digital platform was the following:
"To the extent a business or non-profit has employees that cannot perform their functions via telework or work-from-home arrangements, the business or non-profit should make best efforts to reduce staff on site to the minimal number necessary to ensure that essential operations can continue."
We did have staff working closely together last Sunday to lead worship in the parking lot. And while worship is “essential,” I could not ask staff or volunteers to violate executive order 107 when we have another way to gather for worship.
Worship is essential, and we may be feeling that now with renewed force. We will continue to gather the church for worship the best way that we can. In the meantime, we will use the phone, and the computer to stay connected and to be the church during these extraordinary times.
At this moment on March 22 we have the following gatherings in place:
Tue. - Fr. Coffee breaks on the church facebook page and later posted to our web site.
Tue. Evening Prayer and Concerns circle using dial using zoom to either call in with your phone or connect using your computer.
We will continue to post a service of worship on facebook and on the web site available by 10:15 on Sunday mornings.
Please check your email daily for meetings and gatherings via digital platforms or over the phone.
May God bless us all as we do our best to respond to the Covid 19 pandemic with as much faithfulness and grace as we can.
